Why You Need To Get Your Website Ready For The European Accessibility Act
The European Accessibility Act (EEA) comes into force on 28 June 2025. That’s less than a year away.
The aim of the EAA is to ensure that products and services within its scope are accessible to persons with disabilities. This means your website must be accessible or you will face stiff penalties.
If a website is found to be in breach of the EEA, there are hefty fines and penalties for the companies and their directors. These range from A class A fine (€5,000) or imprisonment of up to six months or both to On conviction on indictment: A fine of up to €60,000 or imprisonment of up to 18 months or both.
So apart from doing the right thing to make your website accessible to people with disabilities, there is serious motivation to avoid large fines and potential jail time. There are some exemptions for so-called microenterprises with fewer than 10 employees and annual turnover less than €2 million.
We have a lot of experience in designing and developing accessible websites.
